Frequently asked questions

Rates and the Deal Finder

Where do the rates come from?

We collect buy prices from each marketplace we track and keep the best live offer per brand and card size. The rates page shows when the data was last updated.

How does the Deal Finder pick cards?

You enter a brand and an amount. It compares every in-stock card size across the marketplaces and returns the combination with the lowest total. Card sizes are often discounted at different rates, so the answer is frequently a mix rather than one card.

What is the difference between single vendor and combine?

Single vendor keeps the whole order at one marketplace, so you check out once. Combine mixes cards from several marketplaces when that lowers the total. Both results are shown so you can weigh the saving against a second checkout.

Are the prices guaranteed?

The figures are estimates from the last collection run. Marketplaces change prices and stock through the day. Confirm the final price on the seller's site before you buy.

How often are rates updated?

Each marketplace is collected on its own schedule, at least daily. The home page and the rates page show the time of the last update.

Do you sell the cards you list?

For most brands we are a comparison site. The offer links go to the marketplace, and the purchase happens there.

Selling a gift card

How do I sell a gift card?

Use the Sell form. Enter the brand, the balance, the quantity and the rate you want. We review it and email an offer. Nothing is final until you accept.

Is the emailed offer final?

The offer is based on the details you entered. We confirm it after we verify the card balance. If the balance differs, we tell you before anything is finalized.

How do you pay?

PayPal, ACH or Zelle, after the balance is verified and you accept the offer.

Do I have to prove I own the card?

For small amounts, usually not. For larger amounts or anything unusual we may ask for proof of purchase or identity before paying. The AML policy explains the checks.

Payment and privacy

Do you store card or bank details?

No. Payments to us and from us run through PayPal, ACH or Zelle. Payment details stay with those providers.

What personal information do you keep?

Your email and the details of your request. We do not use third-party advertising cookies and we do not sell personal information. The Privacy Policy has the specifics.

Why might you ask for ID?

Larger transactions and anything our checks flag get a verification step before we complete them. The AML policy describes it.

Safety

Is buying discounted gift cards legal and safe?

Yes. The cards are genuine and the marketplaces guarantee the balance for the period shown on each brand page. Scams involve someone asking you to pay them in gift cards, which is a different thing. The Safety Center covers it.

How do I know this site is legitimate?

The About page names the operating company. The Terms, Privacy Policy, AML policy and Safety Center are public. We never contact you to demand gift cards, ask for a PIN by phone or promise a return. Anyone doing that in our name is not us.

Someone told me to pay them in gift cards. What now?

Do not pay. No agency, utility, employer or prize asks for gift cards as payment. If you already paid, contact the card issuer and report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov. The Safety Center lists the steps.

Accounts and alerts

Do I need an account?

No. Rates, the Deal Finder and the Sell form work without one. An account keeps your price alerts in one place.

What are price alerts?

Set a target discount for a brand. We email you when a live offer beats it.

How do I stop the emails?

Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email support@giftcardhawk.com and we remove you and delete your details on request.
